# Workspace and panes

> The file browser, review pane, terminals, live preview, in-app browser, artifacts, layouts, HUD mode, quick entry, pets, memory graph, and themes

Around the conversation, Mibyan Desktop gives you the tools you would otherwise open separately: files, git, terminals, a live preview, and a browser. You can show, hide, and rearrange them.

## The right sidebar

Open or close it with `Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `J`. It holds these panes:

    Browse the working directory without leaving the app.

    * **Open folder** and **Change working directory** set where the agent works. Over a remote connection you pick a folder on the connected backend.
    * **Refresh tree** and **Collapse all folders** keep it tidy.
    * **Add to chat** puts a file or folder in the composer as context.
    * The file menu offers **Reveal in Finder / File Explorer**, **Copy Path**, **Copy Relative Path**, **Download**, **Rename**, and **Delete**. Deleting moves the file to the Trash, so you can restore it.

    Select a file to preview it beside the chat.

    A git review pane for the changes the agent makes. Toggle it with `Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `G`.

    | Ask Mibyan to ship | **Ask Mibyan to open PR** reviews the changes, commits with a clear message, pushes the branch, and opens the pull request |
    | Change branch | **New branch**, branch from a base, or **Switch to** another branch. **Worktrees** lists them |

    If the folder is not a git repository the pane says so.

    Real terminals in the app. Toggle with `Ctrl` and the backtick key; add `Shift` for a new one.

    * Open several. Move between them with `Ctrl` with `Shift` and the up or down arrow, close one with `Ctrl` with `Shift` and `W`.
    * **Close others** and **Close all** manage the set.
    * Terminals stay alive while hidden, so a long process keeps running.
    * Copy and paste have their own shortcuts, and you can **send a selection to the composer**.
    * Choose the font in **Settings, Appearance**. Nerd Fonts render shell prompts and icons, and JetBrains Mono is used if you leave it blank.

## Preview and the in-app browser

When the agent builds a page or starts a dev server, it opens in a preview pane beside the chat. `Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `Shift` and `L` opens the in-app browser at any time.

### Previewing files

A file preview has three views: **Source**, **Preview** (rendered), and **Diff**. Details:

* Large files show only the first **512 KB**, with **Preview anyway** for the rest. Binary-looking files warn you first.
* A file with no inline preview (a type Mibyan cannot render) can still be **attached as context**.
* Click **Edit** to change a file right in the pane. If the file changed on disk in the meantime you choose **Overwrite** or **Discard and reload**.
* `Cmd`/`Ctrl`-click a link in the chat to open it in the preview pane. Selecting source lines lets you **drag them to the composer**.

### Previewing web apps

  If a preview address points at the machine running your agent (for example a remote dev server on `localhost`), it cannot load on your computer. Use a port forward or a reachable hostname. The app explains this when it happens.

### The in-app browser

A real browser pane for the agent and for you. Right-click a link to **Open in in-app browser** or **Open in external browser**. `/browser connect`, `/browser disconnect`, and `/browser status` manage the browser connection for the agent (local gateway only).

Rich embeds such as YouTube or X posts load from third-party sites. **Settings, Appearance, Inline Embeds** lets you choose **Ask** (a placeholder until you allow each service), **Always**, or **Off** (plain links).

## Artifacts

Everything the agent generates is collected in **Artifacts** (from the sidebar). Tabs: **All**, **Images**, **Files**, and **Links**. Search, page through, and open any item, or copy its URL or path. Each row links back to the chat that made it.

In a conversation, a generated item shows as a card labeled **Code**, **Interactive page**, or **Graphic**, with a version count. Opening it shows **v N of M**, with older and newer versions, **Latest**, **Copy content**, **Download**, and **Open in browser**. If an artifact is no longer in the local registry, it says so.

## Arrange your workspace

The window is made of **zones** you can rearrange, each with tabs.

* **Layout editor** (titlebar) lets you pick a template (**Columns**, **Rows**, **Grid**, **Priority**), or drag panes between zones. In the zone editor, click to split, flip a split, drag across zones to merge, and drag shared edges to resize.
* **Save the current arrangement as a template** and name it. **Reset** returns to the default.
* **Tab strip** shows tabs above a zone. In **Settings, Appearance** choose **Auto** (hidden when a zone has one pane), **Always**, or **Never**. `Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `Alt` and `T` toggles it.
* **Swap sidebar sides** (`Cmd`/`Ctrl` with a backslash) flips left and right.
* **Close tab** (`Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `W`) and **Reopen closed tab** (with `Shift` and `T`) work like a browser. Closing a chat that is still working only hides it. The session keeps its progress and reopens from the sidebar.
* **Find in page** is `Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `F`.

## HUD mode

HUD mode is a chrome-free floating chat. The app window steps aside and a composer and live reply float over whatever you are working in, so you can ask Mibyan without switching apps.

* Toggle it with `Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `Shift` and `H`, or the **HUD mode** button in the titlebar.
* The reply lingers briefly so you can read it, then fades. Keeping focus in the composer keeps it open.
* **Reset HUD size and position** recovers a lost window.
* A global shortcut can **move the HUD to your pointer** while it is open.

## Quick entry

**Quick Entry** summons a small composer from anywhere with a global shortcut, so you can fire a prompt without opening Mibyan. Turn it on and set the shortcut in **Settings, Quick Entry**. The shortcut needs at least one modifier key, for example `CommandOrControl+Shift+Space`, and the settings tell you if another app already uses it.

## The memory graph

The **memory graph** (also `/journey`) shows the skills and memories Mibyan has built for your work, as a map over time. Filter by **All**, **Used**, or **Learned**, switch between the **Graph** and a timeline, and refresh. It starts empty and fills as Mibyan learns.

**Share map** copies a code that contains only the **layout**, never your memory or skill text. Paste someone else's code to load their map, and **Back to my map** returns to yours.

## Pets

A **pet** is an animated mascot that floats over the app and reacts to what Mibyan is doing: running while tools execute, celebrating on success, sulking on errors.

* Turn it on with `/pet`, or in **Settings, Appearance, Pet**. `/pet list` browses the gallery.
* Choose a pet and it installs and becomes active. You can rename, export, uninstall, or delete generated pets.
* **Size** and **Roam** control how big it is and whether it wanders while idle.
* `/hatch` opens the **pet generator**: describe a pet, draft four looks, **Remix** one, then **Adopt** it. Generation runs in the background and notifies you when done.

| **Message reactions** | iMessage-style emoji tapbacks. Mibyan can react to yours too |
| **Floating composer** | Allow dragging the composer out of its dock, or lock it at the bottom |

## Find anything

* **Command palette** (`Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `K` or `P`) searches chats, views, and actions, opens folders as projects, starts a chat in a project or branch, and changes theme or color mode.
* **Command Center** (`Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `.`) opens the system view: sessions, gateway status and logs, usage over time, and maintenance.
* **Status bar** (toggle with `Cmd`/`Ctrl` with `Shift` and `S`) shows the model, approval mode, gateway health, running agents, cron, webhooks, memory graph, a **context meter**, turn and session timers, and version. Choose which items appear from its menu.
