# WhatsApp connection

> Connect your own WhatsApp number to a Mibyan assistant with a QR code

The personal WhatsApp connection lets you message your own assistant from a number you control. It is separate from the customer-facing Omni product.

## Connect a number

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open WhatsApp settings">Choose the assistant you want to connect and enter an optional connection name.</Step>
  <Step title="Show the QR code">Generate a fresh code, then open Linked devices in WhatsApp.</Step>
  <Step title="Scan and wait">Scan the code before it expires and wait until Mibyan shows the connection as connected.</Step>
</Steps>

The session is stored on the Mibyan server and restored after a service restart. WhatsApp may still require a fresh link after a security event or when you sign out from Linked devices.

  Use a number you own and follow WhatsApp's terms. QR linking is not the official WhatsApp Business API and can be affected by WhatsApp changes.
